YOUR JOURNEY TO BECOMING A FOSTER CARER
THE FOSTERING PROCESS
The process to become a foster carer generally takes around 3-4 months.
Here are the steps you’ll take to become a foster carer with Organic fostering:
STEP 1 - INITIAL CONSULTATION
We begin with a relaxed conversation with our knowledgeable fostering advisors to get to know you better and answer any questions you may have.
STEP 2 - HOME VISIT
We schedule a convenient time to visit your home, where we can explain all the details and address any additional questions you may have.
STEP 3 - APPLICATION SUBMISSION
Once we agree that fostering is suitable for you and you’re confident in your decision, you’ll be asked to complete an application form. Throughout this process, you’ll have a designated assessor, and our Fostering team will provide support.
STEP 4 - BACKGROUND CHECKS AND REFERENCES
After submitting your application, the assessment process begins. This may take a few months, but we’ll support you throughout. Background checks and references will be collected to ensure the safety of our children and young people.
STEP 5 - PERSONAL ASSESSMENT
During this stage, your assessor will delve deeper into your background, your family’s interests, and the qualities that make you a suitable foster carer.
STEP 6 - SKILLS TO FOSTER TRAINING
You’ll be invited to join our Skills to Foster program, the initial step in a customized training and growth program. This engaging course equips you with essential techniques and information for your fostering journey.
STEP 7 - PANEL INTERVIEW
You’re nearing your goal of becoming an approved foster carer. We’ll ensure you feel confident for your meeting with the foster panel. The final decision will be made by the agency decision maker.
STEP 8 - BEGIN YOUR FOSTERING JOURNEY
Once approved, your assigned social worker and the placements team will work diligently to ensure a good match between you and the child or young person who needs your care. Remember, this experience will be incredibly meaningful and life-altering for both you and the children you’re helping.
